Mighty Mites
The Mighty Mites’ ski the mornings (9:00 am – 12 noon) with a coach. The Mighty Mites program is for children who have skied at least two years, are able to “ski the blues” comfortably and want to improve their skills. In Mighty Mites the groups are sized 6 athletes per 1 coach in order for the athletes to receive proper instruction. The program stresses skiing all over the mountain, with an introduction to bumps, terrain park air and rails, as well as racing on NASTAR type courses. The Mighty Mites will race a maximum of 3-4 times throughout the year. Although racing is optional, the Mighty Mites are required to have a USSA Membership for insurance purposes. The USASA license also allows the children to compete in USSA Races and the Chip Gilroy T-shirt Race that Mount Sunapee hosts at the end of the season.
The program meets from 9:00 am to 12 noon with a midmorning break. It is very important that parents drop off and pick up their children at the Alpine Competition Center on time. This gives the coaches and the parents an opportunity to discuss any questions that may arise. Your child will need to be dressed appropriately; this includes, but is not limited to: poles, skis, goggles, helmet, mittens, and ski pants. Please send your child with either money for a snack or a snack in their jacket pocket. Mount Sunapee and USSA require that all athletes wear helmets with hard earflaps.
Parents are expected to pick up the child at 12 noon.
Each year the program hosts the Mighty Mites Ski Off which is held the Saturday before the Mighty Mites Program starts. The Mighty Mites Ski Off is required for ALL ATHLETES in the Mighty Mites program. The Mighty Mites Ski Off is to ensure that everyone has the skills and ability to flourish in the program. The Mighty Mites Ski Off will be held on Saturday, December 17th, 2011 from 9:30 am to 12 pm, on the South Peak. Children must be chairlift approved. Meet at the Alpine Competition building
The Program Director reserves the right to refund the program fee if the child does not have enough experience to ski the mountain.
