Newbury, NH – The name “Sunapee” is an adaptation of two
Algonquin Indian words meaning “wild goose water.” Actually,
geese symbolize many of the ideals that Mount Sunapee stands for
today.
Geese flying in a V-formation represent vision,
allowing each member of the flock to constantly see ahead while at
the same time communicating with each other. Geese also
signify change as a harbinger of the annual change
of seasons by migrating in the northern hemisphere.
Owners Tim and Diane Mueller had a vision for Mount Sunapee when
they leased the operation of the resort from the State of New
Hampshire in 1998. They have invested more than $15,000,000
over the past eight years at Mount Sunapee to meet the changing
needs of the marketplace and the community.
Since 1998, we have built what is now one of the most powerful
snowmaking systems per acre in New England, providing reliable snow
cover all season long. The entire grooming fleet is as modern
and as high-tech as it gets. Mount Sunapee is currently
ranked 2nd in the East for snow quality and grooming.
The new Sunapee Base Lodge and Children’s Learning Center are
state-of-the-art facilities for guests and families, yet were
designed to reflect the natural look and feel of traditional New
Hampshire architecture.
A modern lift system featuring three quad chairlifts, including
the 6,000’ high-speed Sunapee Express, ensures that guests get in
all the skiing and riding they want.
New award winning programs, like Families First where families
can learn to ski or snowboard together, meet the needs of an
ever-changing marketplace.
Geese represent teamwork too. They can
migrate 72% further in their V-formation than flying solo.
When one tires at the point, another takes over to keep the flock
moving in the right direction. Tim and Diane Mueller have led
the way, inspiring their staff to lead in their turn, in their
sphere, always with the common goal of a quality mountain
experience with exceptional service in mind. This is called
“The Sunapee Difference.”
