(Newbury, NH) - Mount Sunapee was recently awarded the Liberty Mutual Safety Commendation Award in recognition of their excellent workplace safety programs. Liberty Mutual is a major provider of workers compensation insurance nationwide, and Mount Sunapee is the first ski area to receive this prestigious award.

“Safety is one of our core values at Mount Sunapee, and our staff has embraced a culture of workplace safety. We are pleased to be recognized by Liberty Mutual for our efforts,” commented Jay Gamble, Vice-President and General Manager of Mount Sunapee.

Tom Brothers, Senior Consultation for Loss Prevention Programs at Liberty Mutual presented the award to the Mount Sunapee staff on Thursday, November 8, 2007.
Brothers told the staff, “Mount Sunapee has been awarded the Liberty Mutual Safety Commendation Award for excellent workplace safety performance during the 2006-2007 ski season. Qualification was based on the fact that Mount Sunapee reduced both its medical costs and lost time claims by over 50% as compared to the preceding ski season. Each year, less than 5% of our customers nationally qualify for this award, so it is quite an accomplishment.”

Jay Gamble and Supervisors Accept Liberty Mutual Award

Mount Sunapee has over 500 employees in 26 departments during the winter ski season. Each department has a safety awareness program that incorporates company-wide safety topics and department specific safety topics. Each department manager holds a safety and guest service meeting each week to emphasize safety at Mount Sunapee.

Mount Sunapee is one of three ski resorts owned and operated by Tim & Diane Mueller of Newbury, New Hampshire. They also own Okemo, Vermont and Crested Butte, Colorado, and workplace safety awareness in strongly emphasized at each ski resort.
