Newbury, NH – Snowmaking coverage on two more trails, a unique
meeting and function room and renovations to the Summit Lodge
highlight a $600,000 capital program at Mount Sunapee. This
brings the total capital investment at Mount Sunapee since 1998 to
more than $15,000,000.
Snowmaking has been added to Elliot Slope and Portage trail for
the 2006-2007 season. Elliot Slope is a 2000’ more difficult
trail off the top of the Spruce Peak Triple chair totaling almost
six acres. The addition of snowmaking to Elliot Slope will
provide a reliable trail off Spruce Peak that is not incorporated
into the Freeride Zone. Currently, the two other runs off
Spruce Peak, Pipeline and Jet Stream, host the popular Freeride
Zone featuring a half-pipe, quarter-pipe and dozens of hits,
spines, rails and boxes. “Spruce Peak is a very popular
area,” says Chris Corliss, mountain manager, “it will be nice to
have a groomed run without any features off that lift.”
Snowmaking is also being added to Portage trail which is a popular
connector between Lower Ridge and Lower Blast Off trails.
For pleasure, business or both, the Hearthstone Room offers a
unique meeting and function facility at Mount Sunapee. This
new facility incorporates a large fieldstone fireplace that warmed
skiers at Mount Sunapee decades ago. Located just steps from
the slopes, the Hearthstone Room can accommodate groups of 20-40
people. The room features wireless Internet and A/V
services. Food and beverage service is provided by Mount
Sunapee’s culinary services plus lessons, fun races and other
enhancements can be coordinated to make a memorable day of work and
play at Mount Sunapee.
The popular Summit Lodge with its spectacular 360-degree view
has received a face-lift. The biggest change is a
redesigned food court that will make it easier to get that steaming
cup of hot chocolate or bowl of hot soup when you arrive at the
2,743’ summit. The stairs to the upper level have been
relocated providing more room in the food court. The redesign
creates some additional seating as well. The outside of the
building has been totally repainted in addition to deck and railing
restoration. In March the deck at the summit with its
southern exposure is one of the most popular spots on the
mountain.
