Newbury, NH – (March 15, 2007) - Taylor Owen, representing Mount
Sunapee, NH, won 1st place in the Kids WB Dual Race event and 3rd
place in the Big Mountain Challenge at the Sports Illustrated KIDS
Next Snow Search finals event, an elite competition to find the
best young snowsports athletes.
Owen, a 13-year-old snowboarder, competed against 110 kids between
the ages of 9 and 14 who qualified for the competition this winter
at one of 66 ski areas in the United States and Canada.
The Sports Illustrated KIDS Next Snow Search finals event was
hosted at Vermont’s Killington Resort on March 2-4. It featured
three days of competition in seven different disciplines: big air,
slopestyle, superpipe, the Kids WB Dual Challenge, moguls, carving
and the big-mountain challenge.
The event is like no other. Boys and girls, skiers and
snowboarders, all compete in one class – and each athlete competed
in all disciplines. In addition to athletic skills, the event’s
judges also consider style, attitude and sportsmanship. The goal is
to find the best 25 athletes who will be named to the “Sports
Illustrated KIDS Next Snow Team,” an honorary recognition.
